NAIAS Detroit 2009
Posted On 04/02/2009 17:34:49 by m_mcneil001

After living in America for the last 3 months it is obvious that industry is suffering considerably, and for the sake of the collective Auto Enthusiasts Community of Vrimz.com I am talking about the Auto industry.  I have seen on TV, ads for zero interest, public can buy at staff prices promotion after promotion and driven past countless car dealerships with the latest Dodge Challenger's lined up unable to be sold.  I'm from Australia, give us your excess stock, we love em. . . . I did however visit the NAIAS - Detroit Motor Show that has just finished and was pleased with what I saw.  I wasn't sure what to expect really after weighing up the fact that it is arguably the biggest motor show in the world but the Auto industry was in such a bad way.  I am pleased to say it was worth the money and the drive!  Almost every manufacturer was represented there and they sure did bring there toys.  There was clearly no expense spared anywhere, from the display of the new Mercedes / Maclaren SLR to the BLACK edition Camaro and concept cars from Subaru and VW that were especially worth pushing people out of the way to get a pic.  The Scion display and the new Mini Cooper that was completely surround by a fake ice-like enclosure!!  Don't knock the Hybrid either anymore until you have seen what Dodge (although it looks kinda like a Lotus) have coming up for us!!  I must say unless I didn't make it to every square inch while I was there, Aston Martin failed to show up.  Jaguar YES, but lets face it, we want to see the Aston Martins...  HUGE LED displays and hands on stuff to interest everyone...  Some of these display were so bright and distracted I just realised I don't remember seeing Ferrari there either????

With the striking glass facade on the GM headquaters overlooking the Cobo Centre in Detroit were this MEGA million dollar show was put on, its a great opportunity to see what the world Auto industry has to offer if you ever get the chance.  But be warned, after you leave with your expectations sky high, no car show will ever be the same again.
